Frozen food export requires reefer containers maintaining -18 degrees C throughout the supply chain. This category is growing rapidly driven by Chinese restaurants overseas and dim sum popularity. Key markets are those with established cold chain infrastructure: Australia, Singapore, UAE, US, UK, and Japan.
All frozen food must be maintained at -18 degrees C from production through to delivery. Products are stored in cold warehouses, transported in refrigerated trucks to port, and shipped in reefer containers (20RF or 40RF). Temperature data loggers are placed inside the container and records are provided upon arrival.
Reefer containers are typically shipped as full container loads (FCL). A 20RF holds approximately 15-18 tonnes, and a 40RF holds 22-25 tonnes. Due to the cost of reefer equipment and power, we recommend a minimum of one full 20RF container. Reefer LCL (less than container load) is rarely available and not cost-effective.
When maintained at -18 degrees C, most frozen dumplings and dim sum have a shelf life of 12-18 months. Frozen vegetables and noodles typically last 12-24 months. We ensure all products shipped have at least 10 months remaining shelf life at the time of departure.
Reefer containers cost more than standard dry containers — typically 30-50% premium. The exact cost depends on the route, season, and container size (20RF vs 40RF). We provide complete CIF quotes including reefer surcharge, power fees, and pre-cooling costs so you can compare landed costs accurately.
We do not recommend exporting frozen food to markets lacking cold chain infrastructure. Without reliable cold storage at the destination port and throughout the distribution chain, product quality and safety cannot be guaranteed. For markets without cold chain, consider shelf-stable alternatives like instant noodles, canned food, or dried products.
